My disc golf life I was briefly and I mean briefly introduced to the sport in the mid 90’s while living in Columbus. A couple friends would loan me some of their discs and we would play Hoover Dam now known as Brent Hambrick Memorial Disc Golf Course. Some time went by and I moved back to Dayton where I’m originally from and life went on. 2007 came and a co-worker reintroduced me to the game and something hit a nerve with me. I would hit a local 9 hole course up at lunch, after work and then again in the evening if life permitted. We started researching local courses and found out there were actually close to ten 18 hole courses in the Dayton metro area alone. My co-workers were not as interested as I was to pursue the sport more seriously and within two years I decided to join the PDGA. In 2009 I entered my first PDGA event, the one part of the day that I really enjoyed most was the atmosphere and the camaraderie shared among the players both during the rounds and throughout the day. From then on I was hooked in traveling to tournaments, it became far more than becoming the next World Champion. That’s never really been my goal, what I enjoy is watching others compete, and seeing the larger tournaments across the country gain galleries for the top Pro’s. I always try and encourage people to come out and watch an event and get a grasp of what is taking the country by storm. Enter the world of social media; a good buddy began a Facebook page dedicated exclusively for fans of Latitude 64 and Westside Discs, as Dynamic Discs hadn’t joined the family just yet. I was quickly added as an Admin to the fan page as I worked countless hours the page and promoting the two brands. Shortly after DD came on board and our members soared into the thousands. The term Trilogy in the disc golf world quickly became a household name in the community and Latitude 64 definitely began to take notice of the promoting we were doing on the site completely out of love for the company. Late 2011 I was approached by Latitude and asked to join the Team and continue to promote the companies, and have been fortunate enough to continue that relationship still to this day. From the sponsorship, my buddy and I talked about a team of disc golf players who all threw the specific brands. Like a club or street team, something for the more casual players but still die hard to the brand. A team where they could feel apart of something bigger than just being a disc golfer, which there is nothing wrong with. Certain parts of the Country are more remote and don’t have the same numbers of disc golfers and some so remote there are no local clubs to join. One evening Dynamic Discs Team member Liz Lopez gave a shout out to team trilogy…..something clicked. After a discussion with DD owner Jeremy Rusco and Maury Reynolds, we began to form what is now known as Team Trilogy. A volunteer street team of enthusiasts from around the World with membership reaching currently over 400+ who purpose is to help #growthesport through leading by example, being positive role models both on and off the course. |
